2. Basic terms

There are important basic betting terms you should know, as:

2.1. Betting market

Every sport event is broken up into a variety of betting markets. Each of these markets focuses on a specific element of the event, for example the event winner, the final score or total amount of goals in the match. At BeatingBets we offer 3 betting markets: 1X2, Over/Under goals and BTTS.

2.2. Tip

A tip in gambling terms is a bet suggested by a third party who is perceived to be more knowledgeable about betting than the bookmaker, which is the one who sets the odds or probabilities.

2.3. Bookie

Bookie is mainly used as a short form for bookmakers. It is a company or organization that accepts and pays the won bets that we have made.

2.4. Odds

Odds are the betting lines that are set by the sportsbook. There are three main odds formats: American, Decimal and Fractional. We will use Decimal odds. BeatingBets tips have odds higher than 1.20 and are displayed with a "@" next to the tips.

2.5. Bankroll

Bankroll is the total amount of money one keeps aside for betting.

2.6. Stake

Is the amount of money risked or invested on the success or failure of a result in a bet. Stake can also be called a bet and represents the total investment in a given bet.

2.7. Units

Units are a normalized way to compare win amounts while removing the stake size. Units are commonly be a percentage of bankroll or a fixed value.

  • Odds: Not all the bookmakers offer the same odds value. Choose a bookmaker that offers the best odds on the market to bet on.
  • Bonus: Who doesn't like the bonuses offered by bookmakers?. We recommend look for them and of course using them (it’s important reading the terms and conditions).
  • Best experience: A cool interface, fast bets placement and a good customer support. A good overall gambling experience for you.

    6. Betting markets and tips meaning

Before knowing how to use BeatingBets and beat the bookies, it's important to learn our tips and betting markets meaning:

    6.2. Tips

-2.5 2 or less total goals in match
-3.5 3 or less total goals in match
    YES Both teams will score
    NO Both teams won't score

    7. Bankroll and stake management

Most bettors lose in the long run at sports betting because they don't know how to manage their money well.

    7.1. Bankroll

The Bankroll is the total money that you have available in one or more bookmakers, destined for sports betting. It's the total amount of money that you have decided to invest in bets.

To be successful in betting, you need more than just a winning strategy and risk management. An essential part of betting of any kind is to have bankroll management. You need to follow the daily movement of your bets and manage your entries. This lets you know if you are indeed making money or losing money.

    7.2. Stake

The Stake in betting is the degree of confidence we have that a given bet will be successful. It is therefore a subjective value, by which the bettor assigns the risk that each of his bets will fail. To number the confidence we place on our bets, we use a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 means that we are barely confident that the bet will be successful and 10 means that we are absolutely convinced that the bet will be successful.

Each number on the 1 to 10 scale will be assigned a percentage of the total money you have available to place all of your bets. Although assigning the confidence you have for each bet is subjective and very personal, we can give some tips to recognise which bets have more or less risk:

  • Stake 1-2: Bets that are very unlikely to be successful, but with such a high odds that the risk can be assumed.
  • Stake 3-4: Bets that are difficult to place due to lack of information or because we are looking for a surprise.
  • Stake 5-6: Bets of feasible success, in which we have enough information.
  • Stake 7-8: Bets with a high probability of success where there is a lot of information.
  • Stake 9-10: Bets that are practically certain to be successful.

  • Depending on the type of bettor you are, you usually establish a full stake (maximum percentage of bankroll to invest in a bet) of 5% to 10%, depending on whether you opt for a more conservative or more daring strategy.

In the case that you set your full stake at 5% (recommended), a linear way of attributing value to each stake according to percentage would be:

  • Stake 1 – 0.5% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 2 – 1% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 3 – 1.5% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 4 – 2% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 5 – 2.5% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 6 – 3% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 7 – 3.5% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 8 – 4% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 9 – 4.5% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 10 – 5% of your bankroll.

  • Now, in the case that you set your full stake at 10%, a linear way of attributing value to each stake according to percentage would be:

  • Stake 1 – 1% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 2 – 2% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 3 – 3% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 4 – 4% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 5 – 5% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 6 – 6% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 7 – 7% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 8 – 8% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 9 – 9% of your bankroll.
  • Stake 10 – 10% of your bankroll.

  • Example: Our bankroll is 1000 $USD and our full stake is 5%. You find an interesting match to bet on. Stake 5 would be 2.5% of our bankroll, so a bet of 2.5% would correspond to 25 $USD.

Now we know what Bankroll and Stake are and why they are so important in sports betting.

    8. Single and multiple bets

There are 2 ways of placing a bet in any bookie, but the most important thing is getting a profitable odd for any of them.

    8.1. Single bets

Is when you choose only one bet selection. For example, a team to win a match or how many goals will score.

    Example: Ticket #1

    Real Madrid vs Barcelona: X @ 3.00

    Total ticket odd: 3.00

    8.2. Multiple bets

Is a bet that consists of more than one selection. If you make that kind of bet you need all your selection required to win. It’s a more risky bet, but you can get a higher payout than a single bet.

    8.2.1. Doubles

    Example: Ticket #2

    Milan vs Fiorentina: -2.5 @ 1.70
    Bayern Munich vs Mainz: +2.5 @ 1.60

    Total ticket odd: 1.70 * 1.60 = 2.72.

    8.2.2. Triples

    Example: Ticket #3

Ajax vs PSV: Yes @ 1.70
    Valencia vs Sevilla: +2.5 @ 1.80
    PSG vs Nantes: 1 @ 1.40

    Total ticket odd: 1.70 * 1.80 * 1.40 = 4.28.

    8.2.3. Quads or more

    Example: Ticket #4

Boca Jrs vs River Plate: +2.5 @ 1.90
    Colo Colo vs Palestino: 1X @ 1.30
    Atletico Nacional vs Tolima: +2.5 @ 2.10
Flamengo vs Sao Paulo: No @ 1.60

    Total ticket odd: 1.90 * 1.30 * 2.10 * 1.60 = 8.29.

    Example: Ticket #5

    Leuven vs Westerlo: -2.5 @ 2.00
    Sporting Cristal vs Cienciano: +2.5 @ 1.95
Olimpia Asuncion vs Libertad: No @ 1.75
    Peñarol vs Nacional: 2 @ 2.60
    Fluminense vs Atletico Mineiro: -2.5 @ 1.65
    The Strongest vs Bolivar: +2.5 @ 1.80

    Total ticket odd: 2.00 * 1.95 * 1.75 * 2.60 * 1.65 * 1.80 = 52.70.

Now it is time to compare single bet vs multiple bet, to see which one suits you. The first point to make here is that there is no right or wrong answer to what you choose to do. The type of bet you place is a strategy, and as long as your strategy suits the betting style you have, you are doing the right thing:

  • Single bets are easier to win, as you need one selection to win, rather than multiple selections that you must win all on the same bet.
  • Multiple betting will generally offer a higher return to the player, as they have more risk attached and therefore have bigger odds.
  • If you are a small staking bettor, you may find that some singles betting bets are not worth placing, as the return on them is so small, the best option for these is to look at a multiple bet.
  • If you are betting a bigger odds, even with small stakes, singles can still offer a great return on a winning bet, and there is no need to add further risk by putting them in a multiple.

  • As you can see, simples and multiples bets are two different strategies to use while betting, and neither one is better than the other. What is true though is that there is a good time and place for simples, and a good time and place for multiples. Determining which one and when to place a bet is the key to being a successful bettor.

    9. Pre-match betting

When it comes to sports betting, there are two types you need to be aware of. With plenty of differences between them, both pre-match and live betting can be highly profitable. Nowadays gamblers have the option of placing a bet before the match starts, or when it’s live.

Pre-match betting is what most bettors are used to. They see the selection beforehand and place bets on matches that they think are going to have a positive outcome.

What’s most appealing about this form of gambling is that you have plenty of time to come up with a winning strategy. This means you’ll have just enough time to analyze the many factors that impact a game.

Now, according to "Single and Multiple bets" section, you are free to pre-match bet single or multiple tickets. Do not forget to reach a profitable odd.

    10. Live betting

The main difference between live and pre-match betting is in the name itself. You will oftentimes find this form of betting under many similar names such as in-game betting. This simply means that you’ll be putting a bet on a match that is currently live.

The reason why bettors prefer live betting is because they can place all kinds of bets and more frequently. You can bet on which team scores the next goal, gets the next corner, yellow card, final score and more.

There are advantages to both types of betting. But regardless of what form most appeals to you, it’s important to play it smart and analyze a successful outcome.

We recommend you to place single bets when you bet live. Also, remember that stake is now variable and not fixed.

    10.12. Tip "NO"

We didn't find any profitable scenario for this market. We recommend betting "No" pre-match only.

    11. Choosing tips and placing bets

Now you know what Single and Multiple bets are. Also, you've learned about Pre-match betting and Live betting.

On the other hand, you've learned the basic betting terms and now you opened an account in your favourite bookie. Now we consider you are ready to beat the bookies with BeatingBets.

In short, we can just make 4 kind of bets:

One or more single pre-match bets (very common)

One or more single live bets (very common)

One or more multiple pre-match bets (common)

One or more multiple live bets (uncommon)

You can place one or more bets a day, but with the aim of making a daily profit. This means having more bets won than lost (getting units won). With discipline and good bankroll management, we'll obtain assured benefits in the short, medium and long term.

    11.1. Choosing a tip

First of all, you need to choose a tip. Thanks to BeatingBets you have in your hands the most accurate tips for most of the football leagues every day.

BeatingBets considers all of our tips have a high probability of success, so it doesn't matter which one you choose.

It is best to identify and specialize in a specific market. Some bettors prefer to bet on the 1X2 market, others, like me, prefer the Over/Under goals market. Instead, other people are more comfortable with the Both Teams Score or Not market. Choose a market that you feel most comfortable with and you think you will have a better betting experience and results.

For choosing a tip, follow these steps:

    • 1. Check BeatingBets Tips.
    • 2. Check which matches have been calculated, and check their respective tips.
    • 3. Choose one or more tips to follow.
    • 4. Now you are ready to place a bet in our bookie. We will see it next.

    11.2. Placing a bet

Once selected the tip(s) you going to bet, place a bet following these steps:

    • 1. Choose a bet type: Live or Pre-match.
    • 2. Choose a ticket type: Single or Multiple.
    • 2. Look in your bookie site the same selected match(es) in BeatingBets.
    • 4. Look for the selected betting market (1, +2.5, Yes, and so on).
    • 5. Place a bet with the recommended stake.
    • 6. Wait to win and get your money.

    You're done!

    12. Cash-out

Cash-out is a feature that some online betting companies offer to their players. This feature allows players to settle bets before the end of the game.

In general terms, this option is used in two cases: When your bet is close to winning or when it's close to being a losing one.

If your bet is close to winning, the betting software proposes you an amount. Of course, smaller than the original profit.

If your bet is close to losing, the cash-out amount offer is smaller than the original stake. So, you have a chance not to lose all your stake in that bet.

The cash-out feature is available from the time you placed the bet and used in most cases in live betting.

    Cash-out works in 2 scenarios:

    Scenario 1:

Cash-out when your bet is close to winning.

    Example:

We've placed 25 USD to a "+2.5" bet in Rayo Vallecano vs Granada match with @ 2.00 odd. This means if there is 3 or more goals in the match, we get 50 USD (25 USD profit).

At halftime, the score is 0-2. The bookie offers you the option to cash-out 40 USD and to settle your bet as won. At this point, you can accept the proposal and make 15 USD of profit—no need for you to involve further with the game.

Or, you can leave your bet open, to win the full amount (50 USD), if the teams score 3 goals or more.

    Scenario 2:

Cash-out when your bet is close to losing.

    Example:

We've placed 50 USD to a "2" bet in Juventus vs Milan match with @ 2.00 odd. This means if Milan wins, you get 100 USD (50 USD profit).

At halftime, the score is 1-0. This means your bet have now fewer chances to win. The bookie offers you the option to cash-out 20 USD and close your bet. Thanks to cash-out, you have the opportunity not to lose all your money (50 USD).
